Superb high-temperature stoneware lamp base by ceramist Bruno Hrdy. This piece, fired in a wood-fired kiln, has a very striking presence.
Era: 1987
Signature: Signed underneath "Hrdy 87 France" and stamped on the side
Equipped with an electrical system conforming to European standards, featuring a large thread E27 type socket and a gold-plated switch.
Its greatest asset is that it comes with a silk lampshade painted with a Japanese-inspired floral motif that echoes the colors of the ceramic. An exceptional piece!
Bruno and Danielle Hardy were a couple of ceramic artists based in Menetou-Salon, a village near La Borne. Bruno studied under Jean Lerat, and Danielle studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs. Having settled in Menetou-Salon in 1972, they built their own wood-fired kiln in which they fired their pieces. Each piece was unique, a testament to their rejection of mass production. They remained active until Bruno's death in 1991.
